Supporting People with Epilepsy and Seizures

About this course
Course Overview
Develop the practical knowledge needed to safely support a person with epilepsy, including recognising different seizures, understanding potential triggers, reducing everyday risks and responding appropriately when a seizure occurs.
The course also introduces emergency seizure medication, including the safe administration of Midazolam when required by the person’s individual plan.
Why take this course?
Seizures can present differently from one person to another, which means support workers need to understand what is typical for the individual they are supporting and know what to do when something changes.
Providing safe epilepsy support involves recognising seizure activity, responding calmly and appropriately, protecting the person from injury and knowing when emergency assistance is required.
This course explores the practical responsibilities of supporting someone with epilepsy. You’ll learn how to correctly follow an individual Epilepsy Management Plan (EMP) and Emergency Medication Management Plan (EEMP) alongside your organisation’s policies and procedures.
You’ll also develop an understanding of seizure medications, emergency Midazolam, safe medication administration and practical strategies that can reduce risks while supporting the person to continue participating in everyday activities.
