Shared Homes, Equal Rights: Preventing Bullying and Managing Co-tenant Conflict

Course Overview

Living with other people can involve different personalities, routines, communication styles and expectations. Although occasional disagreements are normal, repeated intimidation, coercion, exclusion or control can place a resident’s safety and rights at risk.

This course helps SIL support workers distinguish everyday conflict from bullying and recognise the power imbalances that may make one resident more vulnerable. It explores privacy, personal belongings, fair access to shared areas, household agreements and the warning signs that require safeguarding action.

Workers will learn practical ways to reduce escalation, respond appropriately to disclosures, document observable facts and report concerning patterns. The course also examines how to restore safety without forcing apologies or reconciliation.

The module reinforces that a SIL property is first and foremost the residents’ home, where every person should feel safe, heard and respected.
