Responding to Escalation in SIL: Prevention, Safety and Recovery

About this course
Course overview
This practical course prepares SIL support workers to recognise escalating distress and respond in ways that reduce pressure while protecting dignity, choice and safety.
Workers learn how to identify changes from a participant’s usual presentation, consider pain and unmet needs, regulate their own responses, use low-arousal communication, adjust the environment and maintain safe positioning. The course also addresses immediate-risk situations, restrictive-practice boundaries, post-incident recovery, objective documentation and learning from incidents.
